Is Decarock Cladding the same as other products I have found online?

It is similar in that they are made from pieces of natural stone.  Decarock Cladding however is not concrete-backed and is not as heavy as some other cladding products on the market.  The mesh-backing on Decarock Cladding allows for a snugger fit with less visible joins.  This also means that our adhesive sticks each and every piece of stone directly to the substrate (wall), eliminating the chance of the cladding de-bonding from the concrete backing and the requirement for any mechanical fixings.

Is Decarock Stone made with real or reconstituted stone?

All our Decarock Stone products are made of natural stone, whether it be slate, quartz or limestone.  The Woodstone Urban Veneer is the only finish that incorporates a secondary natural element of hardwood.

Can I buy samples before I order?

Yes you can order samples of any Decarock Stone finish, just add them to your shopping cart and process your order as normal.  For Decarock Cladding you will receive one Short Corner in the desired finish.  For Decarock Veneer and Urban Veneer, you will receive one Long and one Short Corner.  If you decide to proceed with an order you can utilise these samples.  All samples are priced at £16.50 each, including delivery, and are usually delivered in 1-2 days by APC.

Can I use Decarock products indoors and outdoors?

Yes, with the exception of our Woodstone Urban Veneer, all other Decarock Claddings and Veneers can be installed both inside and out.  They are made of natural stone and are fixed to the wall with a high-grade, quick grab, frost resistent external adhesive, and can withstand the rigours of the UK climate.  If you follow our installation instructions carefully, then these products will last as long as any other natural stone product would.

How do I work out how much I need?

Measure the horizontal and vertical dimensions of your wall and multiply these two numbers together to give you the total square meterage.  Now add another 10% to cover wastage and cutting.  This wastage figure is only a guide as some areas will require more and some will require less.  Our technical team will help you with your calculations if required, especially if you have corners/returns.

How do I stick the cladding to the wall?

We recommend using our Stone Panel Adhesive, available in 20kg bags and is mixed with water.  This adhesive is a high grade, quick grab, frost resistant external adhesive that has been specifically selected by us to ensure maximum stability and adhesion of our Decarock system.  Click here for our full installation guide.

Can I stick your cladding or veneers onto anything?

No.  It is crucial that our system is installed to a suitable substrate (or wall surface).  We recommend fixing only to a new or existing concrete/stone wall or to a cement carrier board.  A standard concrete block or brick wall is fine but an aerated or extruded clay block will require additional primers.  We do not have an adhesive that will work with wood and would therefor not recommend this as a suitable substrate, as stability of the system cannot be guaranteed.  The Decarock Cladding is quite heavy so we do not recommend fixing onto plasterboard, although the Veneers are okay for this.  We can supply either a Magply or Aquapanel cement board for both internal and external installations.  If you require more details or technical guidance please contact us at:rowebb@rowebb.com or 0141 548 6010 and we will be happy to help you with this.

Do I need to point my wall afterwards?

No.  Decarock Stone does not require to be pointed or grouted once applied to the wall.

Can I clad around a curved wall?

Yes.  Our cladding can work very well for this.  For internal and external curves we would normally use Decarock Cladding Short Corners as they are only approx 290mm long.  While they won’t work with a tight radius, they will ease around a gentle curve.

How do I keep my cladding clean?

Homewash is a multipurpose exterior cleaner suitable for removing dirt, grime and algae from any stone surface, including your Decarock wall.  Just spray on and leave for 30 minutes before washing off, to keep your cladding looking as good as new.  Care must be taken during application, us a member of our team for more information.

Do I have to seal my Cladding?

Choosing to seal Decarock Cladding or Veneer is entirely your own preference, as it is not a requirement.  When left untreated, the stone will weather as any natural stone would when exposed to the elements.  However should you wish to protect your wall, especially indoors, our RS Decarock offers an invisible protective coating that will repel water and dirt.  Available in 500ml handheld pump, it is easy to use around the home.

I have opened a box and there are broken tiles inside. What do I do?

Don’t worry – these tiles are still usable.  We use as little resin as possible on the back of the tiles to form the pieces of stone into a z-shaped tile.  If we use too much it can bleed through the joins to the face of the tile or it would coat the back surface of the tile completely, potentially reducing the contact between adhesive and stone.

If you open the box or start lifting the tiles from the box and there are loose pieces, don’t worry.  Lay them out on the floor and see how it fits back together.  Now you can apply the adhesive onto the wall and the back of the tile as usual, piecing the loose stone onto the wall and back into place.  Within our calculations we have built in a small amount of wastage to each box.

Can I install Decarock cladding myself?

Technically yes.  Due to the design of our Decarock Cladding and Veneers, our easy to use system allows for fast and easy construction in a fraction of the time as a traditional stone wall, eliminating the need for a qualified stonemason.  A professional tradesman can create a beautiful rustic stone aspect in and around the home, or if you are a keen DIY-er you may want to have a go yourself.

How do I calculate corners?

Measure the total height of all your corners/returns.  Now divide this number by 150mm as this is the height of all Cladding and Veneer tiles.  Remember at this point this is the number of individual corner tiles required, not boxes.  Our corner tiles are not L-shaped so you will require two corner tiles to go around your return at each level.  This is the number of both Long and Short corner tiles required.  From here divide this number by the quantity of corner tiles per box.  (For Veneers remember that long and short corner tiles are in the same box, and that this quantity varies between each of the colour finishes so check the product description carefully).

Cladding example:  Total height of all returns is 1.5m therefor 1500mm /150mm = 10.  You need 10 individual Long Corner tiles and 10 individual Short Corner tiles.  As there are 4no Long Corners/box and 8no Short Corners/box, you require 3 boxes of Long Corners and 2 boxes of Short Corners.

Veneer example:  Total height of all returns is 1.5m therefore 1500mm/150mm =10. You need 10 individual Long Corner tiles and 10 individual Short Corner tiles.  If there are 7 Long Corners and 7no Short Corners in the same box, you require 2 boxes of Veneer Corners.

Remember to add 10% to allow for cutting and wastage.  Don’t worry – our technical team will help you with calculations if required.

I want to clad a wall, what do I need?

Let’s start with your substrate, which is your wall surface.  Unless you have a concrete block or brick wall you will need to install a cement carrier board to provide a suitable substrate to receive Decarock Cladding or Veneer.  Calculate how muchcladding you require, including any corners, and remember your adhesive.  The tools you may require include; a rubber mallet, a notched trowel, a small grinder or stone cutter, a spirit level, a paddle for a drill mixer, face mak, gloves and safety goggles.

How do I stick the cladding to my wall?

We recommend using our Stone Panel Adhesive, available in 20kg bags and is mixed with water.  This adhesive is a high grade, quick grab, frost resistant external adhesive that has been specifically selected by us to ensure maximum stability and adhesion of our Decarock system. Click here for our full installation guide.

Can I fix these products to my ICF house?

Yes.We have worked closely with Econekt on several projects and they have successfully used our Decarock cladding to finish off their ICF installations.

Do I fix your panels to the wall with screws or mechanical fixings?

No.  As our products don’t have a concrete backing, the adhesive bonds every piece of stone to the substrate (wall).  We don’t need the adhesive to bond the additional weight of a thick concrete backing, so our system is a lot lighter than others on the market.
