We are proud of our technical knowledge here at Decarock Stone, and the support that we offer to our customers.  Whilst not everyone can answer every question, between us we have many years of experience in the industry and hopefully we should have the answer for you.

Below we have detailed the technical composition of our Decarock Stone system andthe product groups within.  We hope you will find what you are looking for, as we are continually updating this information.  If the answer isn’t here, call us and we will add it for the future.

Product Specifications

Decarock Stone Natural Stone Panel System is comprised of three designs;  Decarock Cladding, Decarock Veneer and Decarock Urban Veneer.
Each system is made up of real stone z-shaped tiles that interlock to form a natural stone facade using both panels and corner tiles.

See below for the elements of each product and what you will expect to find in each box.  Due to the composition of the design, please note that all dimensions are approximate and may vary slightly.

– Decarock Cladding

Decarock Cladding tiles have chunky, rustic elements of natural stone that are held together with an epoxy resin mesh at the back the z-shaped tile.  All tile sizes are approximate.

Colours available:  Natural Slate, Quartz, Charcoal Slate, Rustic Slate and Multicolour.

Panels:
550x150x30-50mm

– Decarock Veneer

Decarock Veneer tiles are thinner than the Cladding are have smaller, sleeker pieces of stone that are glued together at the back to form a z-shaped tile.  All tile sizes are approximate.

Corners and Returns

All corner tiles are flat, not L-shaped pieces, so 2 corner tiles of Decarock Stone will be needed to creat each level around a return.  We would usually recommend using one Short and one Long corner in order to stagger the joins, see the composition of corner tiles below.

Remember when installing your Decarock Stone, always start with the corners at one end, working towards the centre of the the wall.  Then from the other end working towards the centre.  As you continue up the wall, alternate where the joins meet in the centre at these sometimes have to be cut to fit.

Below is an example from each product, of the how the corners will look when fitted together.

Stone Panel Adhesive

We recommend using our Decarock Stone Panel Adhesive, available in 20kg bags and is mixed with water.  This adhesive is a high grade, quick grab, frost resistant external adhesive that has been specifically selected by us to ensure maximum stability and adhesion of our Decarock system.  See our Installation page for more information where you can download our full installation guide.

Decarock RS Sealer

Choosing to seal Decarock Cladding or Veneer is entirely your own preference, as it is not a requirement.  When left untreated, Decarock Stone will weather as any natural stone would when exposed to the elements.  However should you wish to protect your wall, especially indoors, our RS Decarock offers an invisible protective coating that will repel water and dirt.  Available in 500ml handheld pump, it is easy to use around the home.

Magply Renderpro Board

This cement particle board will allow you to create a new substrate (wall) if your existing surface is unsuitable to receive a stone cladding system.  Fitted to timber battens, it will easily carry the weight of Decarock Stone and is suitable for both internal and external applications.  Stainless steel fixings are available to order.
Board dimensions:  2400x1200x12mm
Please note that when ordering boards, they will require 2 pallet spaces for delivery.

Aquapanel Carrier Board

This cement board will allow you to create a new substrate (wall) if your existing surface is unsuitable to receive a stone cladding system.  Fitted to timber battens, it will easily carry the weight of Decarock Stone and is suitable for both internal and external applications.  Stainless steel fixings are available to order.
Board dimensions:  2400x1200x12mm

Decarock Stone Cladding: The Key Difference

Decarock Stone Cladding is different to the majority of other stone cladding systems on the market, the main difference being that it is not concrete-backed.  After a number of trials, we asked our manufacturer to remove the concrete backing for several reasons.

– Weight

The concrete was adding another 15-20kg’s per square metre to the overall weight of the product.  We felt this was unnecessary.

– Delimination

During our testing, we found that there was a potential of delamination between the stone face and the concrete backing.  By removing the concrete, we can ensure a fully tested and UK manufactured adhesive is fixing every individual piece of stone to the substrate.

– No secondary fixings

We realised that the secondary fixing was only fixing the concrete backing to the substrate.  Whilst this was important due to its mass and weight, the product is still reliant on an untested and unknown bond between the stone face itself and the concrete backing creating a potential point for failure.

– Secure fixing

By removing the concrete backing the Decarock system ensures that each and every individual stone face is fixed to the substrate with a known and tested product.  This in effect means we are fixing very small and light pieces of stone to the wall and not great big heavy lumps of concrete that require a lot of holding power to keep them in place.  This means we don’t need to use a secondary fixing which itself creates a more visible joint and doesn’t actually hold the stone face to the wall.  It only holds the lump of concrete in place.

– Visible v invisible joins

Due to the manufacturing process of the concrete backed product, it is impossible for the stone face to project up to the edge of the concrete backing.  As such every joint, horizontal and vertical, will be visible.  By removing the straight lines of the concrete backing our mesh backed product removes these straight lines and whilst the joints will never be completely invisible, they are very hard to spot once the project has been completed.

– Carbon footprint

By removing the concrete backing we have been able to reduce our carbon footprint in both the manufacturing and distribution process.

– Flexibility

By removing the concrete backing, our tiles can be persuaded to work around both internal and external corners.  Whilst we cannot get down to a very tight radius, we can work around a radius of 5m and above with careful preparation and installation.  We also found in testing that the concrete backed tiles didn’t allow for any adjustments during installation and if a course was running off then it could only be allowed to run off unless a bigger gap in the joint was acceptable.  The concrete backed corners were certainly attractive but equally gave no flexibility to the installer to adjust levels and shapes.  With a mesh backed product, the tiles can easily be adjusted on the go and the levels adjusted with ease.
